Medical Staff
LAMB currently has 18 Bangladeshi doctors and 4 long term expatriate doctors. There are vacancies for additional doctors.
LAMB is more generally known for Obstetrics/ Gynaecology services, with 10 doctors focused on this area. All are female, reflecting the national preference of patients in this group, at least for deliveries.
The specialties of other doctors at LAMB are Paediatrics, Medicine, General Surgery, and Family Medicine.
LAMB is fortunate to be supported by short term and visiting expatriate doctors, and this is an ongoing need. Short term and visiting doctors are invaluable to LAMB because they:
– stand-in for staff on leave or extended training
– carry out specific curative campaigns, such as Fistula surgery
– provide training to staff for new, improved techniques, or simply refresher training
-lighten the load on permanent staff, to enable them to catch up on other activities
LAMB is recognized within Bangladesh as providing excellent training for junior doctors, because of the high number of patients, the high standards of care, and the benefits of access to the external experience of expatriate doctors.
For medical students and junior doctors from outside of Bangladesh, LAMB also provides – within its constraints – the opportunity for a great deal of hands on experience.
