Flood Relief 2019, Kurigram

There were several drowning deaths in our work area after boats capsized.

wade out to boats distributing dry food and clean water.
LAMB manages a health-focused disaster risk reduction project (HF-DRR) in an area where one of the largest rivers in Bangladesh frequently floods during the monsoon season. In 2019, the resiliency of the area has been tested by such flooding after an unusually wet spring followed by very heavy early monsoon rains. LAMB staff was able to respond rapidly with support from TearFund UK and CEDAR (Hong Kong).
Nutritional support was distributed with a beneficiary list focusing on children, elderly, and pregnant women. Most rural village families in Bangladesh cook over small mud stoves, which quickly wash away in the floods, so portable stoves were also made available to over 1000 families. Dignity kits for personal hygiene were provided, with safe/clean delivery packs also provided by UNFPA.
