TRAINING:
HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

Aim

LAMB HRD aims to increase competent, compassionate health and development work throughout Bangladesh by training LAMB, NGO, and Government staff in work skills, attitudes, and values.

Introduction

"We have never seen this type of training or health care environment in Bangladesh, with such an attitude of service demonstrated by all staff working as equal members of a team." This type of comment is often heard from people coming to LAMB from outside for training.

It truly reflects the culture at LAMB, where caring for others is a way of life, and where equal respect is given to all, as people, regardless of job role, position in society, or background. Such values formation helps answer a need expressed by government and NGOs for better communication by health workers.

LAMB HRD promotes holistic service in its training, equipping trainees to address emotional and spiritual needs, as well as physical.

History

Community health, including clinical care and teaching, was the initial focus of LAMB’s work in the 1970s. LAMB has nearly 30 years experience in health training. Terminology concerning training has changed over the years. Human Resource Development reflects the more holistic current approach to people development.

Staff

LAMB HRD department has 26 staff, of whom 13 are trainers. The others are administrative or involved in the provision of residential accommodation. The training capability is however frequently supplemented by Hospital staff, both medical and nursing.

Courses

A full listing of the courses available is accessible under the Training tab in the Services menu on the Home Page

Facilities

LAMB has a new major Training Centre opened in 2006. The Training Centre/ HRD Building has six classrooms, residential accommodation for up to 53 trainees, and dining facilities.

Training Approach

The training approach at LAMB is skills based. Skills-based training is designed to enhance job-specific capabilities and attitudes that have a direct impact on performance. Classroom sessions and practical experience are used in combination.

Quality

HRD staff have experience in field follow-up of trainees. Observed differences between training time assessments and follow-up in-service performance, enable continuing quality improvement of training, in both clinical and management skills.

Emotional and Spiritual Focus

LAMB believes that overall health is the result of the combination of physical, emotional and spiritual health, and this is recognized in our training.
